夜の瞑想会 in 広尾 (英語で行われます)

Our drop-in classes are taught by qualified Buddhist teachers, are easy to understand and apply to our daily lives. The classes offer scientific methods for improving our human nature and qualities through developing the capacity of our mind with emphasize on how to use meditation and subsequent practices in the midst of the busyness of modern life.

Practicing both on and off the cushion, we learn how to overcome irritation and anger, reduce stress, become more mindful and improve concentration.

Classes are suitable for both beginners and more advanced practitioners and consist of 2 guided meditations, a short teaching and discussion. No need to bring anything or wear special clothes – just something comfortable to sit on the floor or on a chair. Feel free to drop in any or every week. Everyone welcome!

●Limitless Potential(Dec 7, 21)

・Dec 7:Clarity of the mind
The true nature of the mind is clarity – like a clear clean mirror. When we can access this nature through meditation we shall be free from many of our difficulties. Think of your mind as like the sky – vast and unobstructed – and of all your thoughts and mental busyness as like clouds. Just as clouds form and disperse within the open sky, your thoughts and feelings arise and dissolve within the inner space of your mind.

・Dec 21:The root mind
The root mind is located at your heart chakra in the very centre of your chest. Mentally picture your root mind by contemplating its location, function and nature: located at your heart centre, the root of all your awareness, the nature of clarity – an empty-like space. By contemplating these points, try to gain an image of your root mind and then focus on it. This meditation is very conducive to creating a still and peaceful feeling at our heart.

●New Year, New You!(Jan 11, 18)

・Jan 11:
Start 2017 by making a firm resolve to always encourage ourself to make inner progress and nurture our own positive mental qualities! We will enjoy some precious quiet time to think about which mental qualities we wish to say goodbye to within ourself, and which postive mental qualities we wish to nurture and enhance in 2017. Using the power of meditation, let’s give ourself a sure-footed start for inner development in 2017!

・Jan 18:
Let’s reduce disappointment and frustration in our relationships with family, friends and colleagues! We will look at how it’s possible to give our time and energy to those in our daily life in the way that is most conducive to our happiness – with an ever-open heart and a mind of wisdom.

●Refresh & Revive(Feb 8, 15, 22)

・Feb 8:
Re-discover your own inner fountain of contentment. We are bombarded with images and messages from the external world telling us about the things we still need to be happy. Let’s stop and take a few precious quiet moments to enjoy something that is totally free – the stillness of our own mind. We will also see how it’s possible to develop deep and joyful appreciation for the people and events that have made us the human being we are today.

・Feb 15:
Let’s feel lighter around “difficult” people! Using meditation we can gradually strengthen our adaptability and flexibility around people whom we would prefer to avoid (but can’t!), thinking about how they are striving to be happy and free from problems in every moment of their own life.

・Feb 22:
It is said that whereas anger is the cause of ugliness, patience is the cause of beauty, so let’s use meditation techniques to refresh and revive in a way that results in a beauty boost! We will see how genuine heartfelt acceptance of unwished-for events is both possible and brings incredible benefits to ourself.

●Stress-free Living(Mar 8, 15, 22)

・Mar 8:
The wish to control or change the actions and behaviour of our nearest and and dearest can give rise to a lot of mental tension and stress. Using meditation techniques, we can separate the helpful aspects of our feelings towards the people in our daily lives from the unhelpful aspects, and experience relaxation and peace from within.

・Mar 15:
Learn about the benefits of meditation and in particular the diverse benefits of improving our concentration. We will meditate on our mind being like clear still water. This is very calming and conducive to a clear and alert mental state.

・Mar 22:
When we notice negative behaviour in others, it’s very easy for us to engage in powerful “meditation” on others’ faults and thereby cause ourselves additional unnecessary stress and disturbance! Let’s use meditation to restore balance and perspective to the way we view others, understanding that just as we would not blame our friend for catching a cold, so we can reduce our blaming of others for their own unhelpful mental habits.
